10% off your move to Australia, for students
Shipping a room rather than a house is the move we do most often and write about least. If you are a current full-time student, 10% comes off our removal charges — show a valid student ID at your survey and it is applied before you commit to anything.

The duty rule that catches students
Every removals site will tell you that household effects enter Australia free of duty and GST. That is true, and it is less true for you than for almost anyone else.
The concession — unaccompanied personal effects, declared on the B534 form — covers goods you have both owned and used for at least twelve months. Both tests have to pass. A sofa you have had for six years qualifies. A laptop bought for your course, a mattress bought when you moved into halls, a desk bought in freshers' week: none of those are twelve months old, and each one attracts duty at its tariff rate plus 10% GST.
Two practical consequences. First, it is worth knowing which of your things are genuinely over a year old before you decide what ships — the volume calculator will tell you what the space costs, and anything newer than a year is carrying a tax bill with it. Second, a consignment valued over AUD 1,000 needs a full import declaration rather than the simplified process, so a few expensive new items can change the paperwork as well as the cost. Our customs guide covers both.
Work back from the semester, not from today
Australian university years start in late February, with a second intake in July. Sea freight is 8-12 weeks door to door from the UK and 2-4 weeks from New Zealand, so a February start means your shipment leaves around November — before most people have thought about it, and during the period when sailings fill up.
If that has already passed, air freight is the honest answer for a room's worth of things, or ship late and plan to live without it for a few weeks. The move planner will put real dates against your own arrival and tell you if one of them has already gone.
How the discount is applied
- 1
Tell us about your move
The same quote form everyone uses. You do not need to mention the discount — this page tags your enquiry.
- 2
Show your student ID
At your pre-move survey, before anything is fixed. A current student card or an enrolment letter is enough.
- 3
10% comes off our charges
Applied to the quote before you decide, as a line you can see rather than a promise you are given.
Get your student quote
No obligation and nothing to pay to find out. Your enquiry is tagged as a student enquiry from this page, so you do not need to ask for the discount.

Offer terms
- The 10% applies to our removal charges. Not Australian customs duties, GST, quarantine or inspection fees, or insurance premiums. We do not set those charges and they are not ours to discount. Your quote shows them separately.
- Current full-time students, any age. No upper age limit. The offer does not extend to graduates — if you have finished your course, you move on standard terms.
- We check your ID at the pre-move survey. A current student card or a letter of enrolment. We do not ask you to upload identity documents to this website and we do not store them. If the ID does not check out you get the standard quote, and we tell you before you commit rather than after.
- One discount per move. It cannot be combined with another promotional offer, and it applies to household goods and personal effects, which is the whole of what we move.
Our full terms and privacy policy apply. Not a student? Get a standard quote. Shipping less than a room? Shared container and air freight options.
