Which parts of your points score can still go up, and which one only goes downAge is the only factor in the Australian skilled migration points test that changes without you doing anything, and it only falls: 30 points at 25 to 32, 25 points at 33 to 39, 15 points at 40 to 44, and none at 45 and over, when you can no longer be invited for the subclass 189, 190 or 491 at all. Every other factor can be raised — superior English is worth 20 points, a subclass 491 state or family nomination 15, a partner's skills and English 10, a subclass 190 state nomination 5, and a credentialled community language 5. Waiting a year is not neutral if a birthday sits between you and the invitation.Every lever but one can still go upAge is the only score that changes without youFalls on its ownStill yours to raise25–3230 pts−5 on your 33rd33–3925 pts−10 on your 40th40–4415 pts−15 and out on your 45th45+0 ptsSuperior English+20491 nomination+15Partner's skills+10190 nomination+5Community language+5You must still be under 45 on the day you are invited.
A score below the mark is a different problem depending on your age. Every factor above except one can be raised — a better English result is worth up to 20 points on its own, and a state or family nomination for the subclass 491 is worth 15 — but age falls on its own, in steps, at your 33rd, 40th and 45th birthdays. You must be under 45 on the day you are invited, so if a birthday sits between you and an invitation, waiting is not a neutral plan.
